Boy in Serious Condition After Fall from Escalator

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): A four-year-old boy is in the hospital after falling off a second-floor escalator railing Monday afternoon.

Officials with Indianapolis Fire Department say it happened shortly before 5:00 at the Burlington Coat Factory store at Castleton Crossing. The four-year-old Hispanic boy fell approximately 40 feet from the top of the escalator railing on the second floor down to the first floor.

The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in serious condition. Capt. Reith says there is little information on exactly what happened due to a language barrier but witnesses alluded to the fact that the boy was trying to play on the railing when he fell over.
