Boy Dies After Being Pulled from Indianapolis Pond

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Police say a 3-year-old boy died after being pulled from a retention pond at an Indianapolis apartment complex.

Lt. Chris Bailey says the boy's parents found him about 10 p.m. Monday in the pond on the city's far south side.

Bailey tells The Indianapolis Star that the boy apparently opened a door and left the family's apartment after his father fell asleep and his mother was away from home.

Bailey says the boy was reported missing after the mother returned and found he was gone. The boy's father pulled him from the pond, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
