Boy, 2, Dies After Being Struck by SUV in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police say a 2-year-old boy has died after he was struck by an SUV on an Indianapolis street.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to the scene on the city's west side around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The boy was treated by officers and medical personnel, but the department says he died shortly after medics arrived.

According to police, witnesses at the scene say the boy darted into the street and was hit by a Dodge Durango. Police say the driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation, and that narcotics or alcohol aren't believed to be a factor.

Police spokesman Officer Rafael Diaz told The Indianapolis Star that it “appears to be a tragic accident.”
