Body Found Near Smith and Emily Streets Identified

Today an autopsy was performed on the body of a black man found dead in a vacant lot near Smith and Emily Streets this morning.

Police have identified him as 18-year-old Nathaniel Rainer. He died from several gunshot wounds and as of right now, police are still investigating this incident. Rainer is the 4th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County this year.

Fort Wayne police and the coroner’s office are investigating the discovery of a dead body this morning on the southeast side. 

The victim is described as an 18-year-old male. The body was discovered, unresponsive in a grassy area near the intersection of Smith and Emily Street just north of Pontiac Street.

The identity of the victim will be released pending family notification.
