Boat Sinks, Seven Rescued on Lake Wawasee

SYRACUSE, Ind. (WOWO): The investigation continues after a boat sunk at Lake Wawasee near Syracuse

According to the Indiana DNR, around 7:15 Saturday night, conservation officers were able to corral a speeding boat. But when it was stopped, it flooded with water. As the water was pushing over the front of the craft, the driver attempted to accelerate. That forced more water inside and  ejected one of the passengers into the water. Moments later the boat capsized. Seven people were pulled form the water.

Authorities say the boat was piloted by 22-year-old Adam Wenger of Goshen. He was arrested for operating a boat while intoxicated. Another passenger, 20-year-old Hayden Schmucker of Goshen was charged with possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor.

It's a clear reminder from the Indiana DNR, never drive a boat under the influence of alcohol and to wear a life jacket anytime you are on or near the water.
