Board of Commissioners Reveal Priorities

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Board of Commissioners are laying out their priorities before the 2015 Indiana General Assembly session. In an evening presentation, county officials highlighted the major issues that they would like addressed in Indianapolis next year.

There are key four points to their address. The first is their opposition to the elimination of the personal property tax without a revenue replacement. They say the elimination of this tax would lead to a revenue loss of $20 million for Allen County. The second point requests funding for criminal housing. They say Allen County does not have the capacity to absorb a transfer of non violent felony inmates from state facilities, and there should be a fund to off set the cost.

The third key point is for more funding to make up for construction cost shortfalls, saying it should come from increasing or maintaining current funds from county fuel taxes. The last key point is to avoid retroactive and harmful provisions that would withdraw contributions to the Indiana Public Employee Retirement System. Commissioners say they support units which withdraw to pay dollar for dollar pensions of future retirees currently enrolled in the program.
