BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): The Bloomington Fire Department has promoted a woman to become its first female chief officer in its 115-year history.
The department promoted Tania Daffron last week to become the new battalion chief of training. She has worked for the department for more than 13 years.
Daffron says she's excited, humbled and proud to be the first female to hold the position. Four women are currently employed at the fire department, including Daffron.
Among Daffron's duties are updating firefighters on operations, providing additional training and planning events. Fire Chief Todd Easton says Daffron's knowledge and experience made her the right person for the job.
