FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The American Red Cross is making an urgent call for blood and platelet donations so that a winter shortage can be prevented.
Holiday schedules in November and December resulted in fewer blood drives across the country and about 50,000 fewer donations than normal. It’s a big reason why January is National Blood Donor Month. Not only do the holidays make it difficult for donations, but severe weather and seasonal illnesses like the flu may keep donors home.
You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2367), using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
