INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Many of Indiana's school districts have canceled classes, some for a second straight day, as bitter cold continues its hold over the state.

Temperatures had fallen to between minus 5 and minus 10 by daybreak Thursday over all but far southern Indiana, where readings were hovering just above zero. Indianapolis fell to minus 6, Lafayette was at minus 9 and Bloomington dropped to minus 4.

But it felt even colder. Winds were pushing wind chills to between 15 and 25 degrees below zero across Indiana's northern and central counties, where a wind chill warning remains in place throughout Thursday.

Three of Indiana's largest school districts, Fort Wayne Community Schools, Indianapolis Public Schools and South Bend Community Schools, canceled Thursday's classes, as did numerous other districts in the wind chill warning area.
