Bishop Hying to be Installed in Gary, 4th to Hold Post

GARY, Ind. (AP) – Bishop Donald Hying is set to be installed as the fourth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Gary.

Hying will be installed during a ceremony Tuesday at Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary. The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/17e2qDg ) more than 25 bishops and at least 100 local priests and deacons are expected to attend.

Diocesan spokeswoman Debbie Bosak says the installation was by invitation only because of seating constraints.

Pope Francis appointed the 51-year-old Hying in November to succeed Bishop Dale Melczek (mehl-CHEK'), who retired at age 76 after 18 years leading the diocese. Hying had served as auxiliary bishop of Milwaukee since 2011.

Hying says he expects to spend the first few months visiting parishes and schools and familiarizing himself with the people and communities of northwestern Indiana.
