INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A state senator says he'll sponsor a bill in Indiana lawmakers' upcoming session that would allow Gov. Mike Pence to run both for re-election and the White House in 2016.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1wAy5TS ) state Sen. Mike Delph's measure would expand Indiana's election law to allow a sitting governor or state lawmaker to simultaneously seek both re-election and election to any federal office.
The Carmel Republican tells the newspaper it would be good for Indiana “to have a sitting governor in the national conversation.''
Pence is considering a presidential run but he won't announce his decision until the 2015 legislative session ends in late April.
If Delph's measure passes, Pence would only benefit from it if he does enter the White House race and wins the GOP's presidential nomination.
