FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): If a person saying they are with the Allen County Assessor’s Office shows up at your door, you might want to be skeptical.

Fort Wayne Police are warning residents that a man was reported impersonating an employee from the Allen County Assessor’s Office, according to our news partners at 21Alive.

On Wednesday, a young man knocked on a door in the 2600 block of Ethel Ave. in Fort Wayne. When a woman answered the door, he said he was with the Allen County Assessor’s Office and asked to see the homeowner’s deed to the house.

When she asked to see the man’s identification, he got mad and showed her a blue badge with with letters saying “Assessors Office,” 21Alive reported. The badge didn’t have a photo on it.
Employees with the Allen County Assessor’s Office are issued ID cards that are white with black letters. The real cards also have a county seal and the employee’s photo on it.

Residents are urged to call police immediately if someone suspicious approaches their door.
