Beth White Seeking Nod for Indiana Secretary of State

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Marion County Clerk Beth White is seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana's secretary of state.

White announced Monday she'll seek the office next year. If picked by Democrats at their convention next year, she would likely face incumbent Republican Secretary of State Connie Lawson.

The Secretary of State's office typically receives little attention beyond election matters and business registrations. But the continuing legal drama of former Republican Secretary Charlie White kept the office in the news. White was sentenced with a year of home detention after being convicted of six felonies.

The charges stem from questions of whether he committed voter fraud while seeking office in 2010.
