Baldwin Creek Apartments Evacuated Because Of Sewage

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Residents of Baldwin Creek apartments have been evacuated because of raw sewage.

The suspicious smell started Thursday morning at the Hobson Road residence, prompting a visit from the Allen County Building Department and the Allen County Health Department. The Journal Gazette reports they found raw sewage in four of the basements of the apartment complex. The some 200 tenants then had until 3 p.m. Thursday to evacuate.

Management was assisting with finding alternate places to stay while the mess is cleaned up, which could take up to 48 hours.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Crescent Ave., but so far most of the tenants have found other places to stay. About 20 of the 30 housing choice voicher holders were affected.
