Authorities: S. Indiana House Fire Kills 3 Children

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana fire marshal says an early morning house fire has killed three children under the age of 10 in the Ohio River city of New Albany.

New Albany Fire Marshal Chris Koehler tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., the youngsters' bodies were found in one bedroom where Saturday's fire was contained. He says the rest of the three-bedroom house in the city just north of Louisville received minor damage.

Floyd County Coroner Dr. Leslie Knable tells the newspaper a fourth child survived the 2 a.m. fire and was hospitalized with injuries. She says the youngsters' mother and another adult were believed to have been outside the home when they saw flames and reported the fire.

Koehler says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
