Auburn Police Officers to be Suspended

AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): The Auburn Board of Public Works has suspended two police officers – this after evidence came up missing from the department earlier this year.

This morning the board suggested a 35 day suspension for Officer Steve Ryan and 30 days for Officer Steve Vallance. The board determined the two failed to follow police department procedures to protect the evidence.

Auburn Police Chief Martin McCoy told WOWO News, those suspensions would come at the departments convenience. He added those suspensions be based on schedules, staffing and community events.

In question is how $2,000 went missing. McCoy says weapons including knives and a shotgun also came up missing, but were likely destroyed, but were not documented.

In January the money “vanished” from the evidence room, that set off a series of investigations spanning more than seven months.

A series of investigations lasted more than seven months and involved more than three dozen people, including officers civilians and contractors.

The probe was unable to produce enough for a criminal case to be file.
