Attempted Baby Abductor Given 44-year Sentence

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana woman has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for trying to snatch a 3-week-old baby during an attack in which she wrapped an electrical cord around the mother's throat.

A Delaware County judge said during Thursday's court hearing she was disturbed by the attack since the only way 35-year-old Judith Walker could've gotten away with the abduction was to kill the woman.

The Anderson woman blamed drug abuse for the June 2013 attack at the victim's Muncie home. The Star Press reports Walker said in court the attack was inexcusable.

Authorities say Walker planned the attack for weeks and wore a fake baby belly to make others believe she was pregnant. Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman sought a 70-year sentence, saying it wasn't a drug-induced decision.
