Area unemployment sees slight increase

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s jobless rate is now higher than the national average.

The Fort Wayne metropolitan statistical area listed an unemployment rate of 5.2% last month, compared to the national rate of 5.1 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. It’s the first time the area has had a higher rate than the national average after 31 straight months of being lower.

Allen County has the highest unemployment rate in the surrounding area, but Blackford County has the highest rate in northeast Indiana with 6.8 percent … The highest rate in the state is Vermillion County, at 8.4 percent joblessness.
