PRESS RELEASE:

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new SportONE/Parkview Fieldhouse today. Parkview Health CEO, Mike Packnett, and Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry, joined city and county officials, and Parkview Health leaders, as those in attendance celebrated Fort Wayne’s newest sports training and athletic facility.

The 57,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor multi-sport facility is uniquely designed to host volleyball, basketball, wrestling, as well as cheer and dance events and tournaments. It features eight hardwood, regulation-size volleyball courts, four outdoor sand courts and six basketball courts.

“Parkview is committed to helping keep our community active and healthy,” said Julie Fleck, COO, Parkview Ortho Hospital. “This facility helps promote the types of activities Parkview Health enjoys being a part of.”

The Sport ONE/Parkview Fieldhouse also will be home to Athletes With Purpose (AWP), a local sports performance company that works with area athletes on improving their speed, agility and strength.

“We anticipate more than 20,000 out-of-town families coming to Fort Wayne for all of our different events in 2013,” said Jay Goldsteyn, general manager, SportONE/Parkview Fieldhouse. “We already have commitments from a number of tournament organizers, volleyball, basketball and more, which will help provide an economic boost for the community.”

The facility will also feature a restaurant, training center, weight rooms and private shower rooms. Parents, children and community members are welcome to attend a public open house on Saturday, January 12.
