INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Part of a historic church's facade has collapsed in downtown Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says officers were dispatched to the Church of the Holy Cross early Tuesday morning. Police say dozens of bricks fell from an archway in front of the 92-year-old building.
The Department of Public Works blocked off a street near the church as a safety precaution following the collapse.
The church's priest tells WISH-TV that the building seems to be structurally sound, but there were some concerns about a decorative arch on top of the entryway.
Engineers are expected to inspect the building Tuesday afternoon. Services will continue as planned this week if the engineers determine the church is safe.
