Aqua Indiana with a possible rate increase for sewers, Lucretia Cardenas has the details

Editor of the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly, Lucretia Cardenas joined Charly Butcher on “Fort Wayne’s Morning News” to talk about what all will be in this week’s issue:

1) Pricey flavor of the month
Vanilla Bean’s Biscotti & Pastry Boutique in Fort Wayne is watching what happens with the price of its namesake flavoring after low yields of the crop in Madagascar recently tightened supplies.
The commodity’s prices spiked, and vanilla is in almost all the cookies, cupcakes, cakes and other desserts the boutique sells, said Brandy Schorey, general manager.
Bakeries, creameries, restaurants and even a perfumery in northeast Indiana have been checking with their vanilla suppliers to plan for various scenarios.
2) Public comments flood in for Aqua Indiana rate case
The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor received more than 100 written remarks – including some letters from public officials – by the end of the first week for public comment on a local Aqua Indiana rate case.
The office is giving Aqua Indiana customers until June 17 to comment in writing about a proposed 29.8 percent sewer rate increase.
3) Muddying the waters
Fort Wayne’s Parks and Recreation Department board may have no choice but to exercise its power of eminent domain to acquire two pieces of property needed for the first phase of its proposed riverfront redevelopment.
As of April 12, it had not done that yet.
