INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the convictions of a former Indianapolis police officer who killed one motorcyclist and seriously injured two others while driving drunk in his police cruiser. 

David Bisard was convicted in 2013 of nine counts of drunken driving, reckless homicide and criminal recklessness for striking a group of motorcyclists in August 2010 while responding to a non-emergency call in his police cruiser. Tests showed Bisard's blood alcohol level was .19 percent even though defense witnesses said they saw no signs of intoxication.

Bisard claimed a mistrial should have been declared after a juror conducted Internet research on the case and reported the findings to other jurors. That juror was excused.

Bisard was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with three years suspended.
