Another hearing set for ex-Ohio cop in traffic stop shooting

CINCINNATI (AP): A former University of Cincinnati police officer charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a motorist during a traffic stop is scheduled for another pretrial hearing.

Ray Tensing’s attorney told a judge Tuesday that he’s still awaiting medical records requested from a hospital on motorist Samuel DuBose. Tensing has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter in DuBose’s July 19 death.

Tensing attorney Stewart Mathews hasn’t said specifically why he wants the records. The judge set another hearing for May 26.

Mathews has said Tensing feared being dragged under the car as DuBose tried to drive away. Tensing pulled DuBose over for a missing front license plate.

The shooting came amid increased national attention on police treatment of black suspects. Tensing is white. DuBose was black.
