ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): Angola and Fremont communities are in the running for a national award.
Fremont and Angola came together to enter America's Best Communities Competition. Officials announced Wednesday that Fremont and Angola are one of 15 semi-finalists.
About 350 communities nationwide entered the competition. Of those communities 50 were selected as quarter-finalists in April 2015. Each of the quarter-finalists were awarded $50,000 in seed money. The money was used to develop a community revitalization.
This April, the semifinalists will attend a summit in Durham, North Carolina to present their proposals to a panel of judges. Then eight communities will be named finalists and will be awarded $100,000. The finalists will have a year to execute their proposals.
The communities that makes the largest impact will be named grand prize winners. The top community will win $3 million, second place will earn $2 million and third place will get $1 million.
Other Indiana semifinalists include Valparaiso and Madison.
