INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An amputee is suing a central Indiana jail that he says placed him in an upper bunk from which he fell and was injured when he damaged his prosthetic leg.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana filed the federal lawsuit against the Tippecanoe County sheriff on Thursday. County jails in Indiana are administered by the local sheriff's department.
The lawsuit that Anthony Overla developed a MRSA infection after part of the prosthetic leg pierced his stump. The suit also states that the upper bunk didn't have a ladder, forcing him to jump down.
The lawsuit cites violations of state law and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department in Lafayette didn't immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
