FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The American Red Cross is in critical need of blood donations.

Donations have fallen short of expectations for the past two months, resulting in 61,000 fewer donations than needed.

The American Red Cross is issuing an emergency call for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to give now to help save lives.

Every two seconds in the United States blood and platelets are needed to respond to patient emergencies. The Red Cross must collect nearly 14,000 blood donations every day to keep up with the demand of approximately 2,600 hospitals around the country.

Allen County blood donation centers include:

  • Fort Wayne Blood Donation Center, 1212 E California Road
  • Lutheran Hospital Blood Donation Center, 7900 W. Jefferson Suite 107
