FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): “Giving Tuesday” was a big day for the Allen County SPCA.

The animal rescue organization raised $20,000 in a single day, according to Director Jessica Henry:

“We had the most successful Giving Tuesday of, I think, anybody locally. People started giving at 3 o’clock in the morning, and didn’t stop giving until midnight,” Henry said.

The community donated $10,000, which was matched by a single donor. Henry tells WOWO News that’s the biggest donation amount the shelter has raised in a single day, and it comes at a crucial time:

“We are operating in a deficit on our budget. We’ve helped so many more animals than we anticipated caring for this year.”

The shelter is on track to adopt out more than 2,500 animals by the end of the year. The money raised will cover the cost of caring for 400 of them, according to Henry. You can donate at their website or by calling 260-744-0454.
