FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Public Library is studying a new approach to its circulating materials that could make it easier to return what you borrow.
Libraries would be treating books, CDs, DVDs and other items as a unified collection, instead of belonging to a certain branch, according to The News-Sentinel.
Library officials are studying a “floating collections,” which will save the libraries time and money. Items won’t be transported back to its “home” branch, instead items will be sent to the branch it was checked in to.
The News-Sentinel reports the approach could save the library system both time and money handling the 1.5-million items it has in circulation at the moment.
If approved, the change could go into effect by the end of the year.

Ummm, I’ve already been doing that for as long as I’ve been using the library (over 40 years) and I’ve never been told that I couldn’t do otherwise. (Story has since been corrected since this post)
It means the courier will not go to all the branches and pick up other branch items. The material dropped off at a branch will stay there, instead of going back to the ‘home’ branch.
