Albion Fire Department Plans 125th Anniversary Celebration

You only turn 125 once, so the Albion Fire Department is throwing a party to celebrate its quasquicentennial. (It’s a real word!)

Although the actual anniversary of the AFD’s founding is May 3rd, 1888, AFD volunteers picked the best date possible for the whole community to join in, and will be having the celebration on July 20th, 2013, starting at noon. A dedication ceremony will be at the Central Noble Auditorium from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., but before and after there will be food, events, demonstrations, and activities for children.
Plans are for Albion’s antique apparatus to be on hand, including a 1929 fire engine, and a fire hose cart that dates back to around 1900. Along with that will be a fire truck cruise-in, with apparatus from all area departments invited and on display for the public.
Also, author/firefighter Mark R. Hunter will be on hand to introduce and sign copies of his new book detailing the AFD’s history: Smoky Days and Sleepless Nights: A Century or So With the Albion Fire Department.
