Advisory: Heightened Fire Danger for Whitley County

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Officials with Whitley County Emergency Management issued an Advisory Saturday afternoon, warning residents about a heightened awareness of fires.

Officials say although recent rainfall has increased fine fuels moisture somewhat, a combination of humidity values in the 25 to 30 percent range, with strong gusts of wind, will allow for rapid drying. As a result, there will be a greater risk for grass, brush and ditch fires to spread out of control.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the 60’s Sunday afternoon; therefore, burnings are not advised during that time. If you must burn, make sure that the fire is constantly monitored and that several options are available to quickly extinguish the fire if needed.
