Additional Charges Filed Against Man who Escaped from Jail

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Additional charges have been filed against a man who escaped custody by overpowering a sheriff's deputy and stealing her police cruiser while being moved from a hospital back to jail.

Authorities say Marcus Bramlett was charged Thursday with robbery resulting in bodily injury, escape, battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety officer and disarming a law enforcement officer.

Bramlett was being held on preliminary charges of battery on a police officer at the time of his escape Friday.

Authorities allege the 25-year-old Bramlett used a rifle from the cruiser to rob an elderly woman and steal her car. He later crashed in Lafayette, where he was recaptured.

Warren County prosecutors on Wednesday filed five charges against Bramlett, as well as an enhancement charge of being a habitual offender.
