FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): She’s one of the best of the best. Fort Wayne Community Schools has named Linda Shafer it’s Teacher of the Year. Shafer is a second grade teacher at Adams Elementary School.

Officials say she was honored for her passion and ability to understand learning needs for individual students.

Shafter admits she was stunned, because there are so many great teachers in the district.

“I just work with so many amazing teachers and people in this district that I am certainly honored. But, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t deserve it. We just work so really hard.”

She adds the award is a great honor, but there’s a greater reward for her.

That’s “when they get it. When that look comes across their face, it's like a lightning bolt. They go 'AHHHHH,” then everyone can celebrate it, then when they can show you and apply it.”

With the selection she’s also in consideration for the Indiana Teach of the Year.
