Adams County Under Travel WATCH due to Heavy Flooding

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  Adams County is under a Travel Alert Code “WATCH” due to high flood waters. The status means only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended.

According to the National Weather Service, the flood warning continues for the Saint Mary’s River near Decatur, until further notice. At 3 AM Tuesday, the stage was 20.9 feet and rising. 

US HWY 224 at Decatur is closed due to flood water, and US HWY 33 near Wilshire, OH is flooded.

Extensive flooding is prevalent on the east side of Decatur, IN along with Bellmont High School. SR 101 North is also closed along with other major county roads.

Sand bags are available at the Adams County Solid Waste Management District at 3775 N 200 E, Decatur. Sand bags are also available for Geneva residents at the town garage.

Minor flooding is predicted on the Wabash River and should fall below flood stage around 3:00 PM Wednesday.

The Adams County Sheriff Department reminds all drivers to use caution and keep extra distance between you and the car in front of you. Never drive vehicles through flooded areas or allow children to play in or near flood waters.
