About 4,000 Power Outages Remain in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Utilities continue making progress repairing central Indiana power outages caused by Sunday's snowstorm, with about 4,000 Indianapolis-area homes and businesses remaining in the dark.

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. reports about 4,100 remaining outages Wednesday morning. The utility has said it could take until Thursday to restore all power knocked out by the heavy snowfall on trees and power lines.

Duke Energy reported only about 10 remaining outages in Hamilton, Tipton and Vigo counties.

Indiana's current power outages are about a tenth of the more than 40,000 outages that had been reported on Monday morning when temperatures plunged into the negative teens across much of northern and central Indiana.

Wednesday's temperatures are forecast to rise into the 20s across the entire state as Arctic cold pushes farther east.
