A Milford woman is in critical condition after her car is hit by a train….

Milford police and fire departments, along with Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies responded today to the Emeline Street crossing after a 2:09 p.m. report of a pickup truck that had been struck by a train. Emergency personnel arrived and found the driver of the Dodge truck unconscious and in critical condition.  The driver, identified as Carolyn A. Handy, 77, Milford, was extricated by Milford firemen and immediately transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Multi-Township E.M.S. with head and internal injuries.

Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team members stated that Handy was eastbound on Emeline Street when she failed to stop at the stop sign and crossing and entered into the path of a southbound Norfolk Southern freight train.  The train conductor and engineer stated that they had been activating their whistle and bell extensively through town with the various crossings, and witnesses the Dodge pickup truck pull into the path of their 37 car freight train at the last minute.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team.
