80-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies in LaGrange County Crash

TOPEKA, Ind. (AP) – Police say a suspected drunken driver was using a cellphone when he struck and killed an 80-year-old man riding a bicycle on a northern Indiana county road.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened about 8 p.m. Monday in a rural area near the town of Topeka and killed Leland Lambright, who lived nearby.

Deputies arrested 22-year-old Brian Schrock of Millersburg on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated causing death and reckless homicide. Schrock was jailed and it wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

The News-Sun reports Lambright was a retired farmer who gave carriage rides at the Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
