8 indicted on racketeering conspiracy charges

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) — Federal officials have indicted four people they say are members of an East Chicago gang and four of their associates, alleging they were part of a racketeering conspiracy.

The Post-Tribune of Merrillville and The Times of Munster report U.S Attorney David Capp announced the indictments during a news conference Friday. The indictment says those involved regularly moved hundreds of pounds of drugs and killed at least two people.

Among those indicted was Frank Perez Jr., who was sentenced two years ago to 15 years in federal prison for firing shots at FBI agents during a standoff near Pittsburgh
