8 Applicants Seek Vacancy on Indiana Court of Appeals

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission has received eight applications for a future vacancy on the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Appellate Judge Ezra Friedlander plans to retire on Aug. 31. Applicants seeking to take his seat include Marion Superior Court Judges Robert Altice and Gary Miller. Wabash Superior Court Judge Christopher Goff is the only applicant from outside of Indianapolis.

Also applying are Indiana University law professor Joel Schumm and Indianapolis attorneys Bryan Ciyou, Stephen Creason, Patricia McMath and David Pippen.

The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission will consider each applicant based on characteristics such as legal education, reputation and activities in public service. The commission then will publicly vote on three names to send to Gov. Mike Pence for a final decision.
