5-Year-Old Girl Shot in the Face, Identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Coroner has ruled the death of a 5-year-old girl as a homicide. An autopsy was performed Monday afternoon on the body of the girl who was pronounced dead at Lutheran Hospital Friday, February 13th. She was taken to the hospital that evening, after a reported shooting at a home in the 1500 block of West Fourth Street.


The Allen County Corner has identified the girl as Mya White. Her cause of death was ruled as a gunshot wound and the manner of her death has been ruled as a homicide. A ruling of homicide means that a person died as the result of an act committed by another person.


Police say their initial investigation indicates that the girl was killed when a gun fired accidentally, negligent discharge. Meanwhile, several family members and witnesses have been taken in for questioning.


She is the second homicide victim for Fort Wayne and Allen County this year.
