46 Indiana Counties Issue Travel Advisories

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Indiana Department of Homeland Security reports half of Indiana's 92 counties have issued travel advisories, with Hamilton County north of Indianapolis issuing a travel warning.

The warning means county officials are asking residents to refrain from all travel. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says snow is making roads slick and treacherous, especially in unincorporated areas.

Another 12 counties _ ranging from Posey County in extreme southwest Indiana to Wabash County in the northeast _ have issued travel watches, meaning conditions are threatening to public safety. Residents are asked to use roads only for essential travel, such as for work or in emergencies.

The other 33 counties have issued travel advisories, which means routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation.
