Karen Francisco joined Charly Butcher on “Fort Wayne’s Morning News” to talk about what is going to be featured in this Sunday’s edition of the Journal Gazette. Sunday, there will be a column by a leader of the local Muslim community. He has words of praise for the Fort Wayne community and for FWPD for its reaction to last week’s triple homicide. At the same time, he suggests that angry dialogue at the national level is responsible for the misinformation and outrage to the case that occurred outside of Indiana, fueled by social media.
They have an editorial on the local debate over the question of allowing a needle exchange program in Allen County. Law enforcement officials are opposed to the plan, but Health Commissioner Deborah McMahan makes a compelling argument for responding to a fast-growing public health problem.
Lots of legislative issues coming down to the wire, as well. The House seemed to buckle under pressure from teachers on Thursday, allowing Senate Bill 10 to die. It would have allowed school districts to pay some teachers more than others.
