Lucretia Cardenas of “Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly” joined Charly Butcher on “Fort Wayne’s Morning News” to talk about:

1) Vapers fight Indiana regulation

Time may be running out for those who manufacture and sell “eliquids” in Indiana that are used in so-called open system devices such as vapor pens. A law enacted by the Indiana General Assembly in 2015 gives eliquid makers until the last day of June, this year, to acquire the new eliquid manufacturing permits the state now mandates.  But Evan McMahon, an Indiana eliquid manufacturer and the chairman of industry/consumer advocacy group, Hoosier Vapers Inc., contends the food safety and security requirements for the permits are so impossibly high that no one could, in effect, comply.

2) On the home front
The consensus is that the quality of life for Fort Wayne’s Burmese residents has improved over the past couple decades.
Challenges still remain with cultural integration, language barriers and producing a more highly skilled workforce for a diverse range of jobs and industries but, those who came as refugees are now residents and neighbors, entrepreneurs and coworkers.
3) Region wins grant for skills training
A $1.3 million grant from the state of Indiana will bolster career and technical education in northeast Indiana.
Gov. Mike Pence and Steve Braun, commissioner of the Department of Workforce Development, announced the 13 Skill Up grant recipients Feb. 17 in Indianapolis. Together, they will receive more than $11 million.
