4 Cats, 11 Dogs Die in Indianapolis Fire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis house fire has killed 11 dogs and four cats.

Indianapolis Fire Department Lt. Larry Tracy says the home’s occupant, 64-year-old Peggy Davis, was able to escape the blaze with one cat Sunday.

Tracy says Davis was sleeping but her dogs’ barking awoke her and she found the home before fleeing the residence and calling 911 moments after midnight.

Tracy says firefighters had to make their way through stored materials and other debris to get to the fire. He says the clutter also made search operations difficult, but there were no injuries.

Tracy says the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
