3 Youths Charged in Arson at Closed Goshen Hotel

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say three juveniles set a fire that badly damaged a closed northern Indiana hotel.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. said Thursday the three 15-year-old youths are being held in connection with the Aug. 12 fire at the Goshen Inn. They face juvenile charges of arson, burglary and criminal mischief.

Hill says the three piled up cardboard boxes, paper and pieces of wooden furniture and lit the pile on fire with a lighter. Once the fire grew too big for them to control, they fled.

The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damages. Hill says the three youths also caused $20,000 in damages from broken windows and mirrors and graffiti.

The hotel's hotel owner was fatally beaten there in 2011 by a homeless man he took in.
