26 firefighter jobs available now in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Looking for a job? If you always wanted to become a firefighter growing up, you might have the chance to get your dream job. The Fort Wayne Fire Department is hiring 26 firefighters.

Mayor Tom Henry and Fort Wayne Fire Chief Eric Lahey said Tuesday during a press conference that the application process is open and the deadline is May 1.

Applicants must either have an Indiana paramedic license or a National Registry Paramedic Certification. They must also be 21 by May 1 and cannot be 36 or older by Jan. 1, 2017.

Last month, the 17 recruits in the 88th recruit class, began the 16-week training process. The 89th class is set to begin in early fall with graduation in December.

The new firefighters will fill vacancies left by retiring firefighters.
