INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The Indianapolis police chief says two city officers are dead after one suspended from the force fatally shot his ex-wife before killing himself.

Chief Rick Hite says police were called Thursday evening to Officer Kim Carmack's home on the city's far west side, where she and Sgt. Ryan Anders were found dead.

Hite said during a news conference that Carmack had obtained a protective order against Anders. He was on administrative leave and had surrendered his department weapons. Court records show the couple's divorce was finalized in October.

Hite say a door had been forced open at Carmack's home.

Carmack was a 20-year veteran of the department. Anders had been on the police force for nine years and was promoted to sergeant in 2011.
