DECATUR, Ind. (WOWO) – Buckeye Pipe Line Company, L.P. (“Buckeye”), confirmed Saturday that approximately 195 barrels of jet fuel spilled into the St. Mary’s River in Decatur on Friday.
The company reports the fuel was an accidental release due to a pipeline failure around 5:17 p.m.
The pipeline was shut down immediately by the Buckeye Control Center after the company detected a pressure irregularity. Buckeye’s Emergency Response Team has been working to secure the area, contain and collect the released jet fuel and remediate any environmental impacts.
The pipeline will remain shut down until it’s repaired and deemed safe to continue working.
Buckeye is currently investigating the cause of the failure.
