140 Indiana Teachers Attending National Teacher Conference

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Indiana State Teachers Association President Teresa Meredith says teacher evaluations and excessive student testing are among top concerns for teachers nationwide.

Meredith is among 9,000 educators from every state who are taking part in the National Education Association‘s 153rd Annual Meeting starting June 26th in Orlando, Florida.

Meredith says 140 Indiana delegates are concerned about time taken away from actual teaching and “the whole child” as opposed to constant preparation for math and reading exams.

She says teachers want better job evaluations that drop the “test and punish” notion and focus more on actual job performance and constructive criticism.

Meredith says Indiana delegates planning to attend aren‘t only working teachers; they‘re also retired educators, college students, bus drivers, school secretaries and maintenance workers.
