MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP): An 11-year-old boy who told police he brought a knife to a northern Indiana school to protect himself at the basketball courts near some apartments has been suspended for five days.

The South Bend Tribune reports  that the Emmons Elementary School principal in Mishawaka called police after the boy took the folding knife with a 3-inch locking blade out of his backpack and showed it to some friends.
