102-Year-Old Takes Ride at Indianapolis Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A 102-year-old woman says she's disappointed that her 180 mph laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with racing great Mario Andretti weren't faster.

Edith Pittenger of Muncie rode with Andretti in a two-seat race car Tuesday for some laps around the track.

Pittenger tells The Star Press she wanted to hit 200 mph, but Andretti told her 180 mph was the maximum.

She tells WRTV she remembers first driving a car in the 1920s when she was 12 years old.

Dozens of family members joined Pittenger at the speedway for what was her second trip around the track. She took fast laps in 2008 at age 96 with driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. She then marked her 100th birthday two years ago by going parasailing.
